If you're aiming for historical accuracy, I recommend modelling your units like this. Ranker figures can be printed off as 3-strips and 4-strips, while Officers, NCOs, Musicians and other figures can be printed off individually. Using the included strip bases, you can then make custom strips to emulate the formation linked above.
